1. REMOVAL OF A SHELTER

Since 1 January 2005, the categories of navigation, mandatory limit and permanent removal of a shelter, have disappeared.

You can thing a destination or a navigation area, when fully examined:
- The state of maintenance of your boat
- The theoretical capacity of your boat to face a sea and wind conditions data (CE design category, or class of navigation in which the vessel is approved)
- Navigation conditions in the proposed
- The weather forecast
- Your ability and your skill
- The ability of your crew or passengers

Only one formal obligation: to have on board safety equipment adapted to your navigation is less than two miles from shelter, is coastal (between two and six miles from a shelter) or offshore (more than six miles shelter).

WHAT IS A SHELTER?
It is any place where a ship can dock or anchor is safe.
This is a relative concept, based on parameters such as weather (wind strength and direction) or the tide.

2. SAFETY EQUIPMENT

It should no longer comply with a strict list of equipment to have on board at any time and any place according to the type of navigation where the ship was registered, but to adapt the equipment to navigation performed.

Choose the most suitable equipment and set your list:
- The new list of materials generally defined regulatory goals of safety and not an accurate way: you select the tool best suited to achieve
- This list is regulatory minimum: add what you feel necessary.

Neither consider this list as a formality. In marine responsible for your crew and your ship, design your security by taking into account the state of your boat, use you make of it, the navigation area, your experience.

Know perfectly the place of your equipment on board study its mode of implementation.
